These shots were taken as my children played with their friends in Brazil, in the beach village of Prea and also in nearby Jericoacoara.
It’s the third chapter in my Brasil series of children’s photography. Most of the time the children were in the water, diving for coins, but in between these times they enjoyed building stuff with tools and wood and checking out the chicken coup. Other pastimes included sweeping sand off the porch “just like the Brazilian kids do Mama!”. The Ceara State of Brazil where we stayed is incredibly windy, which is why it is so popular with kite surfers, including the kids’ grandpa, who is a mean kiter with lots of stories to tell about ‘kite-mares’ and ‘down-winders’. I will leave the rest to your imagination….
The sandy beaches go on for miles, often with nobody around except yourself. There are also some beautiful beaches that have rock pools; great for crabbing, as you can see here in some of the pictures. The only downside to staying in a hut on a windy, sandy beach (paradise) was that I couldn’t always use my professional camera, as it would have been scratched to bits(not so great). The major upside as a photographer was the magical light.
For a great place to stay head for Vila Bela Vista.
There’s just one more chapter in the Brasil series to come …next week’s chapter is entitled ‘beach life’…..
