I was delighted to photograph this fun loving family again recently, the last time I visited being 2 years ago. Mum Natasha shared a love of natural portraits that aren’t forced or posed. Her two boys really enjoyed sharing with me all their latest news, toys and sports equipment…so we had to get some shots of them outside in the communal gardens playing table tennis on the new table, tearing around on scooters and roller blades and sporting a massive cage type of cricket helmet. Kids of this age rarely like posing for photographs, but they are the perfect candidates for a more documentary approach to storytelling photography. As a mum of older children, I know how quick these latest hobbies and interests can pass, and the way kids look can change dramatically once they start moving up through secondary school. Having a regularly updated record of your family story, and getting these images printed in a book or just as prints, is a great thing to do, and something you’ll always be pleased you had done once the children have changed and your life has reached a new stage.
If you would like to start having your family story documented, with a mix of timeless portraits and action shots, do get in touch. Because my sessions are based in your home, the time of year and the weather doesn’t matter. In fact I like taking portraits in the winter because there’s lots of lovely light in the afternoons and there’s always a cosy feel to photographs taken indoors.
