Family and child portrait photography, Surrey
The day was a hot, humid mid summer’s day.
Each brother was excitedly getting ready to go into the pool when I arrived
and screams of delight soon filled the garden as they fearlessly jumped in and out of the cold water.
To capture their sheer joy for life was made easy for me as they rushed around the garden in a state of bliss.
Some of the pictures make me laugh to myself…
The pensive pictures come easily, but I maintain my resolve to capture the optimism of youth in my work, and the humour that comes with being with three brothers for the afternoon.
Bedtime is important for me to capture.
I’m fascinated by family routines and the peaceful, calm atmosphere that descends upon a previously riotous household when bedtime comes close.
I’m drawn to the beautiful light and quietness of the bathroom, and the quiet peacefulness of the dark, carpeted upstairs where the babes retreat for stories and milk.
Once they are all tucked up safely, they fall asleep within minutes
into a deep, contented sleep.
I’m there to tell it like it is…with no fabrications or untruths. It’s all there in front of me in abundance…humour, tenderness, brotherly love, sometimes frustration, joy, children who enjoy their family traditions and routines and the safe security of their loving home from which they can explore and discover new and exciting things. These are the things that are important for me to capture.
