Morning light at the park; children’s photographer, Dulwich London
We choose Dulwich Park as the location for this shoot with two year old Lale and her Mum. At the height of summer, and just before the long grasses were mown, it felt more like the south of France than London. We were also blessed with lovely morning light that wrapped itself around this mother and child so beautifully.
I think that two years old is one of my favourite ages to hang out with as toddlers seem to have such an infectious enthusiasm for exploring and experiencing life to the full.
Some of the photographs were taken under the shade of the cool fir trees, which provided us with amazing pools of light in among the shadows. I like to take both action shots and some more still, reflective moments so that we end up with a range of portraits. As usual, one of the most important things for me to look for is the interaction between children and their parents, as these are the moments we long to capture in time and that will grow in significance as time moves forwards and new changes and developments happen. Indeed, what we have become accustomed to today, will one day become a precious memory which we get great joy from revisiting in the form of photographs. The power of images, and photographs in particular have always captivated me, and as a child I would spend hours looking around each image carefully, looking for the story that had been frozen in time. It’s the storytelling aspect of any situation that still captivates me, and makes me want to examine my subject matter from a range of angles until I feel I have told the story before me with a fresh and unique approach and have done justice to the truth.
In choosing me as their family and children’s photographer, I hope that my clients have found a good match in how they would like to be captured, in both a relaxed informal and unobtrusive way, and have put their trust in me to produce images that are unique and personal to them.
