Baby portrait photographer London
These photographs of six month old baby Felix make me feel very nostalgic about my own childhood. I do love looking at old photographs of me as a child, particularly ones that turn fading memories into something tangible so that I can remember them more clearly and share them with my own children.
I prefer to photograph babies in their own home, as they usually would engage with their family in everyday life, rather then pose and set up situations that don’t normally happen that way. The way the light is falling and the way things end up happening are never the same twice, and I just love to stand back and let the action unfold, without putting my own interpretation on things. That way, the photographs hold a lot more meaning to them in years to come.
I like to capture moments in time where everything comes together to make a beautiful image. It’s the light, the composition and the action taking place as well as interactions between parents and their baby that are all key elements that make a baby portrait photograph special.
I also like to tell a story when I photograph babies. On this occasion we chose to document bathtime because Felix really loves having his baths; it gives him lots of time to just hang out with Mum in a really relaxing, comforting environment at the end of his day. I love to photograph everyday activities where babies and their families are at home, in the space where they feel the most comfortable…doing things like bathing, getting dressed and having time to stretch out on their tummy or practice trying to roll or crawl. These things might feel all to familiar at the moment, but in years to come it will feel more important to have pictures of these times with your baby while they were still small.
