Capturing baby’s bath time at home is a great way to make some classic and timeless images that you’ll want to treasure forever. I still have in a frame photos of my own father in the bath at this age, with his big Old English Sheepdog, Jake with his paws up on the tub! With over 10 years of experience as a baby portrait photographer, baby’s bathtime is something families have asked me to document all the time, ever since the first one that I photographed back in 2013. It’s everyday routines and rituals like this that are so lovely to document with photography when children are little. Days when they are babies pass by so fast in a blur, and it can be hard to remember the smaller moments without the prompt of a photograph. As a mother myself to three grown-up kids, I love to look at old photographs of them doing ordinary stuff like this, in homes that we’ve moved from a long time ago. Even the stuff in the background is fascinating to see, and all the little details are like keys that unlock another memory! I am very interested in capturing the feeling of a moment, and if a photograph can spark the memory of an emotion or feeling then I know it’s a good one that will stand the test of time. I want the same for the families that I photograph, and when they tell me that they love their images I know it’s because they can remember how it felt to be there.
I so enjoyed capturing this lovely baby’s bath time, which provided some lovely peaceful downtime where mum and baby could really connect and just enjoy each other’s company doing something they do every day. These little everyday moments are the ones that are so fleeting, and activities like this always do well when preserved in a still image so that you can savor the moment for many years to come. It’s also a lovely thing for the baby to have when they grow up, and I’m sure these photographs help us to recall memories of how life felt when we were tiny.
I have photographed this family many times over the years ( the older brothers were all at school on this day) and I am always grateful that so many families continue to put their trust in me as their photographer for many years as their family grows. In fact, putting your complete trust in me as your photographer to do my thing and get the images you want is a key ingredient to a successful shoot, and is something that shines through in the images, where you’ll look truly relaxed and at ease.
