This family portrait session at home took place in the summer, during the lovely spell of hot weather we had in London. I adored this family, with their creative, vibrant home and hilarious pug, Rory, who wanted to be in all the pictures. Taking portraits of parents with their baby at home is my favourite thing to do…everyone is always so relaxed and theres always so many significant moments to document.
I’ve been practicing mindfulness recently, and I’ve noticed that small little things such as putting the kettle on to have tea with some homemade cake, or wrapping a baby up in a towel after a bath are actually the most significant moments in our lives. Whilst I enjoy studio photography and I adore fields of long grass as backgrounds, I’m not sure that anything can top being in a family’s own home to take their portraits. All the things we surround ourselves with are an expression of our personalities, and home environments can add a layer of richness to a portrait that a park or studio can’t achieve.
So if you like the look of these informal, natural portraits and would like to have some taken of your family in your home, get in touch.
