elegant & natural

Christening photography

I’m often lucky enough to photograph baptism ceremonies at weekends, and my style as a London Christening photographer can be described as both timeless and documentary.

Using natural light (in the same way that I  approach my reportage wedding photography), I unobtrusively capture all the moments of the day, both big and small, in a way that tells the full story in an album that you can revisit again and again for many years into the future. I love the way that these occasions are so full of a wide range of emotions and moments which are just so great to capture on camera. I enjoy every minute, observing and seeking out the good stuff, like mining for gold to photograph.

I also cover naming ceremonies, which are becoming more and more popular.

It was so lovely to have you be part of our day, so many of our guests have said how skilled you were and much they enjoyed having you there. I also really appreciate you gracefully adapting to the slight chaos of the day and so many different groups! These photos are a beautiful way to remember such a special day.

Unobtrusive, documentary coverage for

your day

Even the quiet seemingly mundane moments carry their own significance, and the importance of these images grows with time. It’s also a time for many generations and friends old and new to come together, and post-pandemic I’m sure these special occasions, however big or small,  will be experienced with even more feeling than before.

If you are thinking about having some Baptism photographs taken on your child’s Christening day, a good starting point is checking with your vicar or priest if they are happy for you to arrange a photographer and if they have any stipulations about this. Generally speaking, churches are very welcoming and open to having photography, although some venues such as St Pauls Cathedral do not allow photography during the ceremony.

The reception party is a great time to take candid portraits and get portraits of everyone relaxing and being themselves. There’s also plenty of great food to photograph, and I love a good cake photo!

I have a range of Christening photography packages available so that you can choose one tailored to your event, however big or small. Please do get in touch if you would like to hear more about these.

My

Approach

Here’s my approach to achieving a collection of shots you’ll treasure for years to come.

01.

natural

Before your Christening, we will liaise to plan the photography for the day. Ahead of contacting me, it would be helpful to check with the church that photography is permitted during the service. Try and get in touch with me as soon as you have a date in order to avoid disappointment.

02.

unobtrusive

I don’t use lighting during the ceremony, and I stand back so that the photography doesn’t intrude on the service. My style is reportage, documenting the action from a distance during the ceremony. Afterward, you can have some group shots and portraits as well. I also document the Reception in a similar way, so that the full story of the day feels consistent and natural.

03.

all the details

I like to capture all the details from the service, and also afterwards at the reception. There are also many opportunities throughout the day to capture your family and guests interacting, with smaller moments being interspersed with the more significant ones.

04.

timeless

My style of photography and also editing is classic, meaning your images will remain timeless and stand the test of time. My aim is to capture your day in full, because you will be too busy yourselves to notice all that goes on around you. When you receive your images back, there will probably be lots of moments captured that you didn’t get to see on the day.

Your Ceremony

Your elopement ceremony is a canvas upon which you can paint a picture of your unique love story. Here are some ideas to help you infuse your personalities and experiences into the ceremony.

01. planning the photography

Once you are sure of all the details, start planning an itinerary of the day. Then we can work out what the photography will entail, such as shot lists and selecting locations.

02. photographing the ceremony

As with weddings, my photography at Christenings is both documentary and unobtrusive in approach. I have a good relationship with many churches in London…they know that I am respectful and remain at a distance.

03. after the ceremony

This is a great time for some formal portraits of key family members and the Godparents or Guideparents.

04. receiving your photos

Your edited full gallery will be ready within 3 weeks of your Christening. I edit all the photographs myself by hand and select some for b&w as well.

Hello! I have been terrible at posting pictures on Hello! I have been terrible at posting pictures on Instagram this year. It’s been a busy year with lots of shoots and I have also been completing an MA which has been incredibly rewarding and also very challenging (in a good way). It also feels really difficult to post photos of beautiful things with all that is going on in the world- especially Gaza. Thank you to all of my loyal clients and families who have asked me to be their photographer for many years. New commissions are also welcomed, so feel free to email me for inquiries. This is a photo of my new studio assistant, Milo who is obsessed with climbing on my desk when I edit. If you would like to see more of my work then check out my website as I will not be posting on instagram very often anymore. Big 🧡
