I’m often lucky enough to photograph baptism ceremonies at weekends, and my style as a London Christening photographer can be described as both timeless and documentary. Using natural light (in the same way that I approach my reportage wedding photography), I unobtrusively capture all the moments of the day, both big and small, in a way that tells the full story in an album that you can revisit again and again for many years into the future. I love the way that these occasions are so full of a wide range of emotions and moments which are just so great to capture on camera. I enjoy every minute, observing and seeking out the good stuff, like mining for gold to photograph. Even the quiet seemingly mundane moments carry their own power, and the importance of these images grows with time. It’s also a time for many generations and friends old and new to come together, and post-pandemic I’m sure these special occasions, however big or small, will be experienced with even more feeling than before.
If you are thinking about having some Baptism photographs taken on your child’s Christening day, a good starting point is checking with your vicar or priest if they are happy for you to arrange a photographer and if they have any stipulations about this. Generally speaking, churches are very welcoming and open to having photography, although some venues such as St Pauls Cathedral do not allow photography during the ceremony.
The reception party is a great time to take candid portraits and get portraits of everyone relaxing and being themselves. There’s also plenty of great food to photograph, and I love a good cake photo! Below is a small sample of some of the many receptions I’ve photographed…in homes, restaurants, hotels, gardens, no matter how smart or casual, this time is always fun to capture because everyone is always smiling and the portraits are always really natural and authentic. It’s also a good time to get wider shots, with some more environmental portraits, which are full of details and in context to the venue which is great to look back on in the future.
I have a range of Christening photography packages available so that you can choose one tailored to your event, however big or small. Please do get in touch if you would like to hear more about these.
Christening AlbumsAs with documentary wedding photography, reportage photography is the best way to capture all these emotions and it allows the day to unfold naturally, creating classic and timeless images that both tell your story fully(great for albums), whilst also having images beautiful enough to frame and hang. Our heirloom albums are a great way to display your images in a storytelling format, and the sturdy and beautiful Folio albums ensure that your photographs can be treasured by future generations to come. We also offer a range of printing and framing options.
