Having been a family photographer for wonderful families for many years, my style has remained consistent and timeless. My portrait sessions come from my love of narrative story-telling and memory collecting.
Cocoa Jones Photography is a London-based family and newborn photography business run by me, Thea Courtney. I offer in-home family photography and documentary Christening photography. I also offer portraiture & head-shots. I’ve been a leader in the London family photography industry for over 12 years, and have also been the commercial photographer at Totter & Tumble for 7 years.

I collect children’s books
The name Cocoa Jones comes from a character in a book I loved as a child called ‘My naughty little sister’. I still have all my family’s favourite picture books, going back to the 70’s, when I was a child.
I used to teach art
I’m a qualified art teacher and before becoming a photographer, I used to teach in secondary schools.

I began taking family portraits many years ago, at first with my own children, then my friends’ kids and eventually I built up the courage to get real clients! Those early days were scary, and I am so grateful for the brave families who put their trust in me when I was starting out. I have now been a leader the UK family photography industry for over 12 years. I also have an MA with distinction in documentary photography, as I went back to uni in 2025. I know that commissioning a photographer is a hard task, but it is the photographer’s wealth of experience that will help you choose well. Many families have had multiple sessions with me over the years, which I think is the best kind of testimonial. Experience is especially important with live events – this is how I became a now fearless Christening and Wedding photographer!
I work closely with you to create a custom photography package that suits your specific needs, whether that includes adventurous outdoor shots, candid moments, or creative, artistic images. Ultimately, investing in a family photographer is a way to ensure that your family life is not only beautifully documented, but also a reflection of your unique family story, and a way to collect cherished memories that you can revisit and share for a lifetime.
Prices; the average total spend is £500-600 for a session and digital negatives hand edited by me.
