This session was held at home on the family farm in Sussex a few summers ago. I love black and white photographs for their timeless quality. Whether you’re at home in the city or you have a farm in the countryside, as with this family, both my own approach and the feel of photography are the same. Perhaps you have a garden or a patch of woodland near your home where you think we could create something similar? There are also amazing spots around London, and I am also able to travel further afield if there’s a place that you know and love in the countryside. It’s always fun thinking up a plan for a family session, and it’s a mixture of your ideas and mine that brings individual magic to each portrait session. I also like to listen to the children’s ideas and I let them lead the session to a certain extent. With this particular family shoot, the children most definitely took the lead and I just followed them around taking photographs as we explored their family’s garden and fields together. Some of the photographs were taken on film, which always brings a romantic and nostalgic quality to images.
If you are interested in having a b&w session, with the added option of analogue film, then please get in touch as I love working in this way. I think it works very well for portraits of children and also looks great printed big in frames on the wall.
