Family portrait photography, Dulwich, London
Having a family portrait photography session in your own home means that there is lots of opportunities for natural and relaxed photographs using the natural light available. Whilst studio portraits are an important genre in their own right, many people prefer to have informal portraits taken in a place where they feel most comfortable…having your daily life captured in your own home is becoming the popular choice for such people. The stories that can be told by documenting families together relaxing in their home always astonish me…nothing about real life is boring if we only stop to look. If you take a look at this set of photographs you will find a proud 7 year old brother helping to change his new baby brother and running his bath water for him, and a spritely sister standing in the most unexpected gymnastic pose imaginable as she stands and chats to her mother All these things couldn’t have been thought up! They are unique to this family’s story and this is what makes the photographs meaningful to them. My responsibility as a photographer is to make images that matter to each family I am blessed to photograph. When clients come to me, they trust me to dig deep to find their real story, every time I enter a room in their house and every time I choose to click the shutter. Family portrait photography is at it’s best when all the key elements are in place; lighting and positioning are important but there must be a trusting connection between the photographer and her subjects for the portraits to capture truth.
