Newborn baby photography in your own home
I’d just like to show a few photographs from a newborn baby and family session I did last year and add some words about why I think it’s nice to have these kinds of photos taken at home. These kind of photographs are not your average baby photographs these days, although there has always been a certain amount of people, myself included, that prefer natural photographs rather than posed. More often you will see shots of babies lying in a basket or wearing a hat, after the photographer Anne Gedes started a massive trend in posing babies a few decades ago. The photographs you see in this post are photographs that don’t follow any particular trends, but come from a desire to capture real life moments in time. I know that once a moment is gone neither a photograph or anything else can bring it back, but hopefully if the image is honest and true, it will jog our memories and our senses in years to come, and take us back to how it really felt to be there at the time.
I also love to photograph other family members with the new baby; all these little interactions and fleeting moments are not to be missed! This part of our lives is actually over really quickly, although at the time it can feel long due to lack of sleep. Having your family photographed at home is not only easier, it is also where everyone is most relaxed and where the surroundings will hold meaning in years to come. Please don’t feel that either you of your home has to be perfect to have your life documented…all that is needed for a good photograph is some natural light and for you to be present in the moment….which is easily done when there’s a wonderfully brand new baby to gaze at in wonder.
